Commissioning a palatial-scale Tanjore painting is a spiritual and artistic voyage. A custom piece takes up to 70 days of continuous, meditative craftsmanship. Here is the step-by-step journey of your bespoke masterpiece.
Weeks 1-2: Board Synthesis and Agamic Sketching
The journey begins with sourcing premium Burmese Teak. The wood is seasoned and wrapped in unbleached cotton. Multiple layers of French chalk and Arabic gum are applied and polished to create a limestone-smooth, crack-proof board. The master artist then sketches the deity, strictly following the proportion rules of the Dhyana Shlokas.
Weeks 3-6: Mukk Relief Work and Jaipur Inlays
Using the traditional 'Mukk' paste, the artist raises the ornaments, crowns, and temple arches to create a three-dimensional depth. While the relief is semi-soft, authentic Jaipur stones are embedded into the clay.
Weeks 7-10: 24K Gold Gilding and Final Pigmentation
Once the relief work is completely cured and rock-hard, thin leaves of certified 24K gold foil are placed over the gesso relief and burnished with a soft cloth. The final weeks are spent painting the expressive eyes and soft skin of the deity using natural mineral pigments. The piece is then checked for quality, registered in our database, and crated for shipping.
